Senior Trades Worker – Facilities Technician

The facilities technician serves crucial roles in ensuring that the building and its mechanical systems are functioning properly and efficiently. The role of a facilities technician is multifaceted. They tackle everything from routine maintenance to troubleshooting complex system problems, ensuring that the facility where they work remains in optimal condition.

Job Summary :

Routine maintenance, inspection and compliance.

Job duties include :

  • Performs construction, landscaping, irrigation, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical (HVAC), and all other related preventative and routine maintenance duties at Apopka Service Center, Palm Bay Service Center, Geneva Field Station, Apopka Field Station, and Sunnyhill Field Station.
  • Responds to facilities requests (employee-generated work orders) in support of District staff and functions (District events and meetings), including assembling, installing, and moving furniture and office equipment.
  • Oversee and support the Janitorial contracted service to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Create and complete routine work orders and file completion requirements in the electronic work order system (TMA).
  • Recommends repairs and required maintenance projects in the respective area of responsibility as well as coordinating and monitoring the progress of contracted service providers and contractors, reporting on progress and gaps to the Facilities Program Manager.
  • Perform facility inspections, including safety and health inspections, correct deficiencies, and assist the Facilities Program Manager with annual planning and budgeting. Occasionally, as needed, act as a liaison to the project manager, including assisting in developing the scope of work for capital improvement projects.

Minimum Qualifications :

A high school diploma or G.E.D. and four years of experience as described above.

Ability to:

Climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding; work in small or confined areas--manholes, ceilings; lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds ; pulling and pushing of objects/furniture; grasping objects --tools, equipment, materials, etc. stooping or crouching; distinguish color--electrical wiring; distinguish sounds, i.e., air leaks, bearings going bad, etc. ability to work outdoors. Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, employees, other work units, and contractors; understand project assignments; monitor contractual staff, work independently as required.

Skilled in:

HVAC and generators maintenance and diagnostics, construction codes, reading and comprehending electrical and mechanical blueprints, operating building automation systems, carpentry, knowledge of plumbing, painting and landscaping, and all relevant facilities maintenance and operation tasks.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

Office and field work, sometimes in extreme weather conditions. It can require working in tight areas, indoors and outdoors, in inclement weather.

Licenses:

Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.

Equipment, tools, and uniforms are provided for this position.

Starting Salary Range: $40,019.20 - $46,800.00

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
