SENIOR TRADES SPECIALIST

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: SENIOR TRADES SPECIALIST - CORRECTIONS PRISON
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
Performs skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and/or carpentry work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and facilities. Work involves the installation, evaluation, diagnoses, repair and maintenance of heating, water, air conditioning, electrical and/or ventilation systems, related components and/or building interiors, exteriors and structures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs skilled maintenance, diagnostic evaluations and repair work on County buildings and facilities. Work involves a combination of trade areas to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or heating, ventilation and air conditioning (Mechanical). Work is performed to ensure structural safety; proper functioning and operations; aesthetic value, and compliance with applicable standards, policies and practices.
Installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs building systems and related structures and components such as plumbing, security, sprinkler, electrical and/or Mechanical systems; and performs skilled carpentry work in the installation, construction, remodeling, and repairing of building structures, interiors and exteriors.
Performs the full range of tasks for assigned trades work to include construction and installation, inspecting, diagnosing and troubleshooting; repairing and replacing components; removing and/or demolishing old components; and hauling materials, supplies and tools.
Reads and interprets blueprints, plans, and schematics of systems/structures being repaired.
Inspects and adjusts mechanical systems such as boilers, chillers, and water heaters. Examines and maintains fire alarm systems to ensure proper functioning.
Operates various hand tools, power equipment and machinery, precision instruments, specialized tools, gauges and devices, and automotive vehicles in the performance of varied skilled trades work. Maintains and performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Keeps work sites and supply areas clean.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by three (3) years of experience performing skilled building maintenance and repair work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Some positions may require journey level certifications in an assigned Trades specialty area.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds)
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, and toxic agents.
