Job summary

Canopy Aerospace & Defense is seeking a TPS Design Engineer to own end-to-end development of thermal protection components for hypersonic platforms. You will work across aerothermal, design, materials, and test teams to translate heat flux and aero loads into robust mechanical designs.

The role requires 4+ years in TPS design with flight or high-enthalpy testing, GD&T expertise, and a strong CAD background.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing and owning TPS components or assemblies qualified through flight or high-enthalpy testing.
• Comprehensive knowledge of TPS materials and architectures including thermal blankets, ablative carbon composites, rigid ceramics, and cryogenic insulation.
• Full lifecycle design experience from concept through manufacturing with 3D CAD modeling, drawing release, and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end ownership of TPS components and subassemblies from requirements to hardware delivery.
• Own and drive material trade studies balancing thermal survivability, structural integrity, and manufacturing realities for hypersonic regimes.
• Collaborate with aerothermal, design, materials, and test groups to translate heat flux and aero loads into robust mechanical designs.
• Develop CAD drawings, ICDs, interface with manufacturing, and ensure parts build to spec.
• Support testing campaigns (arc-jet), perform data reduction, and iterate designs from empirical data.
• Serve as TPS SME with up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art technologies.
• Lead technical sections of proposals and new products to advance defense objectives.
