Job summary

OTTO Engineering, Inc. in Illinois is seeking a Tool and Die Maker to lead tool development and debugging of new dies. You will read blueprints and CAD data, work with stamping tooling, and collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure tooling readiness and part quality.

The role requires hands-on tooling experience, tolerance checks, and a willingness to overtime. Candidates with CNC Mill/EDM exposure and SPC knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Completed Tool and Die Apprenticeship or 10+ years of equivalent experience
• 5-7 years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker with troubleshooting skills
• Expert in blue print reading with GDT
• Basic computer skills
• Knowledge of SPC
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs with assistance
• Ability to push 200 lbs on wheeled carts with assistance
• Ability to use various inspection equipment
• Must be available for mandatory overtime or non-standard or extended work schedule
• CNC Mill and EDM experience is a plus

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Understand tool steels and production material
• Construct, alter or repair tools from blueprints and CAD data
• Operate tool room equipment
• Fabricate tooling for the stamping department
• Maintain tooling records for preventative maintenance
• Set up dies, material feeds, and operate the punch press to trial tools
• Debug and troubleshoot new tooling for part approval processes
• Assist in die changeovers
• Assist with other related duties as required
