Job summary

Crescent Energy, a Houston-based energy company, seeks an experienced Senior Regulatory Accountant, Severance Tax, to join our Accounting team. You will prepare, analyze and support Texas severance tax reporting, filings, accruals and regulatory compliance in a collaborative environment.

The role requires at least 5 years in accounting within upstream oil and gas, including 3 years of direct Texas severance tax experience, and strong Excel and ERP/SAP proficiency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, including at least 3 years of direct Texas severance tax experience.
• Strong knowledge of Texas severance tax regulations and reporting requirements.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with upstream oil and gas accounting systems and ERP platforms required; SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Texas oil and natural gas severance tax filings to ensure timely and accurate reporting and payment obligations.
• Maintain compliance with applicable Texas severance tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
• Prepare monthly severance tax accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Analyze production, revenue, and ownership data utilized in tax calculations and reporting.
• Research and resolve filing discrepancies, reporting variances, and reconciliation issues.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to severance tax accounting.
• Support Texas Comptroller audits and regulatory inquiries, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.
• Assist in the administration of severance tax exemptions, incentives, and reduced-rate programs, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
