Crescent Energy is seeking a Senior Regulatory Accountant, Severance Tax to join our Houston-based Accounting organization. The role focuses on preparing, analyzing, and supporting Texas severance tax reporting, compliance, and accounting activities for oil and natural gas operations.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of accounting experience in upstream oil and gas, including 3+ years of direct Texas severance tax experience, and a track record of improving processes and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of accounting in upstream oil and gas, including at least 3 years of Texas severance tax experience.
• Strong knowledge of Texas severance tax regulations and reporting requirements.
• Experience preparing severance tax filings, reconciliations, and audit support documentation.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with upstream oil and gas accounting systems and ERP platforms; SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Texas oil and natural gas severance tax filings for timely reporting and payment obligations.
• Maintain compliance with Texas severance tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
• Prepare monthly severance tax accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Analyze production, revenue, and ownership data used in tax calculations and reporting.
• Research and resolve filing discrepancies, variances, and reconciliation issues.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to severance tax accounting.
• Support Texas Comptroller audits and regulatory inquiries, including schedules and documentation.
• Assist in administration of severance tax exemptions, incentives, and reduced-rate programs.
• Maintain documentation supporting tax filings, exemptions, audit requests, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Partner with Revenue Accounting, Production Reporting, Land, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure reporting accuracy.
• Support acquisitions, divestitures, and integrations affecting severance tax reporting.
