GE Vernova’s Schenectady Technology Lab seeks a Senior Facility Electrical Engineer to lead and advance the electrical infrastructure supporting our test lab. You will oversee 15 kV down to 120 V and DC control systems, including transformers, switchgears, MCCs, UPS/DC systems, and specialized test equipment.

Responsibilities include safety leadership, system design and commissioning, project leadership, vendor management, and creating robust engineering documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or 15+ years experience with high school diploma.
  • 10+ years in electrical engineering with 5+ years in facility/industrial power systems.
  • Experience with MV/LV, transformers, switchgears, MCCs, UPS/DC, generators, relays.
  • Proficient in ETAP, SKM, EasyPower for system modeling.
  • Authorized to work in the US; no visa sponsorship planned.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical infrastructure design, commissioning, operations, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure safety leadership with NFPA 70E, LOTO, arc flash mitigation.
  • Provide technical direction for facility projects with internal teams and EPCs.

Job Description Summary

GE Vernova’s Component & Development Test Schenectady Technology Lab is seeking a Senior Facility Electrical Engineer to lead and advance the electrical infrastructure supporting our world-class test laboratory.

Job Description

Responsible for the Schenectady Technology Lab’s (STL) electrical infrastructure, spanning from 15 kV feeds down to 120 V and DC control systems. This includes transformers, switchgears, MCCs, distribution panels, UPS/DC systems, and specialized test equipment.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Safety Leadership: Champion electrical safety practices, including LOTO procedures, NFPA 70E compliance, and arc flash mitigation strategies.
  • Design & Engineering: Lead facility electrical system design, commissioning, operations, and troubleshooting across MV/LV systems.
  • Project Leadership: Provide primary technical direction for facility-based projects, coordinating with GE Vernova teams, EPCs, and vendor partners.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with Facility & System Readiness team, Lab leadership, lead test engineers and site senior electrical engineer to integrate electrical systems into broader facility designs.
  • Vendor & Package Management: Manage electrical equipment packages end-to-end, including RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawing reviews, FATs, and commissioning.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop detailed electrical specifications, load lists, one-line/three-line diagrams, area classifications, and technical procedures. This includes maintaining and updating legacy facility drawings/redlines.
  • System Studies: Perform advanced electrical studies (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, motor starting, arc flash) using ETAP, SKM, or similar tools.
  • Global Standards Compliance: Apply NEC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, OSHA, and other international standards to facility designs.
  • Mentorship: Act as a senior technical resource, guiding junior engineers, contractors, technicians and hourly employees.
  • Communication: Prepare clear technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and external customers. Actively participate in team and project meetings to clearly provide professional insights, safety requirements and technical expertise.
Work site

This role is 100% onsite at the Schenectady Technology Lab in Schenectady, NY. It also involves occasional travel (<15% annually).

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with 10+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in facility or industrial power systems, OR High School diploma with 15+ years experience.
  • Proven track record in electrical construction, inspection, and troubleshooting during installation and commissioning.
  • Hands‑on experience with MV/LV systems including transformers, switchgears, MCCs, UPS/DC systems, generators, VFDs, and protection relays.
  • Advanced proficiency in electrical system modeling software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower).
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full time basis.

Desired Characteristics
  • 15+ years of experience in electrical system design, FEED, and detailed engineering for large-scale facilities (oil & gas, petrochemical, hydrogen, refining, EPC).
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing vendor packages, electrical buildings, and power distribution centers.
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and EasyPower programs Strong grounding, cable sizing, breaker coordination, and electrical room layout expertise.
  • Experience with power generation facilities and transmission/distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of global electrical codes and standards (NEC, CEC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, ABS, OSHA).
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, with ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Understanding of electric grid operations and electrical control systems.

Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
