Job summary

Surge IT is seeking a senior test automation engineer to lead a team in the development and testing of advanced software applications.

The candidate will own the automation strategy, manage the framework, create test plans and scripting, and oversee estimates and test summaries to ensure a successful release. Daily client interaction during testing phases is expected.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of manual functional, regression, usability, integration, remote access, and accessibility testing.
  • Experience scripting automated tests from scratch with Java, JavaScript or Python.
  • Proven ability to build an automation framework from the ground up.
  • 3+ years testing web services and APIs; SQL/DB backend testing SME.
  • Experience delivering LOE estimates, test plans and reports.
  • Proficiency with Agile tools (JIRA, Confluence, Zephyr Scale) and defect management.
  • Section 508 testing experience with accessibility tools.
  • Strong leadership, delegation and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of test automation engineers and own the test automation strategy.
  • Manage the automation framework, tests, and peer reviews for releases.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, analysts and developers to validate requirements.
  • Communicate testing status and defects to clients during UAT or testing phases.

Job description

Seeking a senior test automation engineer to join a team of experienced professionals in the development and testing of advanced software applications.

Position Description

The candidate must be self‑driven, with the ability to work independently with test engineers, DevOps teams, business analysts and developers to review software design and requirements documentation to understand application functionality. The position requires leading a team of test automation engineers, owning the test automation strategy, managing the automation framework, performing and overseeing level‑of‑effort estimates, test plans, test‑case scripting, peer reviews, and test summary reports to ensure a successfully tested release. In addition to manual and functional testing, the candidate will create automated test and performance test scripts using Selenium or Rational tools, Performance and Functional Tester. The individual will test key functionality, set up and verify data, and report test results to the manager.

The individual will also be responsible for interacting with clients on a daily basis during testing phases to ensure that release testing defects are communicated to the client and/or support UAT.

Required Skills
  • Functional: more than 5 years of solid experience with manual functional, regression, usability, integration, remote access, and accessibility testing
  • Automation and/or Performance: more than 45 years of experience developing scripts from scratch with programming code (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
  • Experience developing an automation framework from scratch
  • Web services testing: 3 years of experience developing scripts using web services tools
  • Database: serves as SME in SQL, DB, backend testing
  • Experience developing level‑of‑effort estimates for own work and others
  • Authoring test plans and reports
  • Experience testing in an Agile development environment using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Zephyr Scale to develop/execute functional and regression test scripts, requirements traceability, and manage defects
  • Experience with Section 508 testing using tools such as JAWS, SortSite, Dragon, WAVE, or Lighthouse
  • Leadership experience: leads, delegates, and mentors others
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with a client during User Acceptance Test sessions
  • Experience developing level‑of‑effort estimates, test plans, test case scripting, and test summary reports
  • Experience with developing testing schedules
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Possession of excellent multitasking and organizational skills
