Job description

Senior Test and Evaluation (T&E) Engineer – Hypersonic Systems

Schedule: Full Time on site (this position does not allow for remote work)

Relocation: Negotiable

IronMountain Solutions is seeking a highly experienced, mission‑driven Senior Test and Evaluation (T&E) Engineer to join our Engineering Services Division team in Huntsville, Alabama to support the Scalable Hypersonics Office (SHY) within Advanced Fires Project Office (AFPO). In this role, you will serve as a critical technical expert guiding the T&E lifecycle for next‑generation hypersonic missile systems. You will bridge the gap between design engineering and real‑world deployment, ensuring these critical national defense capabilities are survivable, reliable, and lethal.

The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of both Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) and Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E), with specific expertise navigating the unique thermal, aerodynamic, and telemetry challenges inherent to hypersonic flight regimes. Candidates must possess an active Secret Security Clearance. Per federal requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this level of clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Support the PM test team: planning and executing Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), component and system level test programs, and test documentation.
  • Test Strategy & Planning: advise and assist with developing suitable test requirements based on external shareholder expectations. Lead the development of comprehensive Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP), detailed test plans, and data collection strategies tailored for hypersonic environments. Attend and provide feedback for Test & Evaluation Working‑level Integrated Product Team (T&E WIPT) meetings, Combined Test Team (CTT) meetings, contract gate reviews, Technical Interface Meetings (TIMs), design reviews, and other test & technical meetings.
  • Execution & Oversight: oversee and participate in ground testing (wind tunnel, thermal structural, hardware‑in‑the‑loop) and flight test events at various national test ranges.
  • Data Analysis: analyze complex telemetry, sensor data, and flight dynamics to evaluate system performance against strict engineering specifications and operational requirements. Review and adjudicate submitted Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) artifacts—including Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Reports, and specifications.
  • Defect & Risk Management: identify, document, and track system anomalies; collaborate closely with design engineers, software developers, and program managers to drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: serve as a primary technical liaison between the engineering team, government program offices, test range authorities, and warfighter representatives. Engage with external T&E organizations including Army Test & Evaluation Command (ATEC), Director, Operational Test & Evaluation (DOT&E), and Director, Development Test, Evaluation, & Assessments (D&DTE&A).
  • Contract Support: provide input to scopes of work (SOWs) to ensure appropriate test activities and CDRLs are incorporated.
  • Reporting: author formal test reports, safety assessments, and executive‑level readiness briefs to support milestone deployment decisions.
  • Physical Job Requirements: while performing duties, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use tools or controls, perform normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs), and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) in an engineering or related STEM discipline (e.g., Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Physics) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Test and Evaluation engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience within missile system development, complex aerospace platforms, or high‑speed aerodynamics.
  • Security Clearance: must possess an active SECRET security clearance and be able to obtain Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications & Skillsets
  • Direct T&E experience specializing in hypersonic systems (e.g., boost‑glide vehicles, scramjet technologies, extreme thermal protection systems).
  • Deep familiarity with DoD 5000‑series acquisition regulations, WarU (formerly DAU) test guidelines, and Army/Joint test environments.
  • Proficiency with advanced data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python) and processing high‑frequency telemetry/sensor data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of briefing senior military and civilian leadership.
  • Familiarity with Redstone Arsenal acquisition and engineering stakeholder networks is a plus.
Clearance Requirements
  • This position requires the candidate to already possess an active Secret Security Clearance with preference for current TS/SCI clearance holders.
  • Per federal requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this level of clearance.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain TS/SCI clearance.
Travel

Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% to national test ranges, fabrication facilities, and government installations.
