Job summary

SES in McLean, Virginia is seeking a Senior Engineer, Terrestrial Network to lead the design, procurement, implementation, and optimization of terrestrial transport networks that support critical communications infrastructure.

You will manage circuit procurement, vendor relationships, and collaborate with carrier engineering teams to ensure diverse, reliable backbone connectivity and cost-effective solutions for business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, CS, IT, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 5+ years in telecommunications or transport network engineering with circuit procurement experience.
• Design, implementation, and management of terrestrial transport networks (MPLS, Ethernet, DWDM, wavelength, dark fiber).
• Strong understanding of carrier architectures, route diversity, and high-availability design.

Responsibilities

• Design, procure, implement, and optimize terrestrial transport and backbone networks.
• Lead end-to-end circuit lifecycle: feasibility, vendor selection, ordering, provisioning, testing, and renewals.
• Collaborate with carrier engineering teams to validate diverse routes and resiliency.
• Review circuit routing docs, KMZ files, and provider reports to assess risks.
• Communicate circuit risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
• Provide technical support for network events and outages to internal customers.
• Support modernization, capacity planning, and technology refresh initiatives.
