Provide senior-level telecommunications engineering for the AMI 2.0 network communications, including carrier, wireless, Wi-SUN, and utility telecom components. This role will translate AMI requirements into scalable telecom designs, support vendor evaluation and solution validation, and partner with project management, network engineering, cybersecurity, field operations, architecture, and system integration teams to ensure the communications solution is reliable, secure, supportable, and aligned to AMI 2.0 delivery objectives.
- Lead telecom engineering analysis, design and support for AMI communications technologies including cellular, private wireless, Wi-SUN mesh, carrier services, and end-to-end connectivity.
- Define and validate telecom requirements, coverage, capacity models, performance criteria, resiliency needs, and operational support requirements for the AMI 2.0 program.
- Review vendor architecture, design documents, deployment plans, and technical deliverables to confirm alignment with enterprise standards, cybersecurity controls, field constraints, and AMI use cases.
- Support lab, pilot, field trial, and production readiness activities by troubleshooting telecom issues, performance issues, provisioning gaps, and integration dependencies.
- Partner with wireless carriers, telecom providers, meter vendors, system integrators, and internal engineering teams to resolve technical issues and drive execution.
- Develop network Wi-SUN mesh detailed design for areas where public cellular coverage is poor or unavailable.
Required Skills/Attributes:
- Strong telecommunications engineering experience across wireless, carrier, RF, field area network, WAN/backhaul, and utility communications environments.
- Demonstrated ability to design Wi-SUN Mesh networks with simulation model experience and necessary troubleshooting to help resolve field deployment issues of the Wi-SUN network design to resolve connection issues.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate, design, and troubleshoot large-scale communications solutions supporting critical infrastructure or high-availability enterprise systems.
- Working knowledge of 3GPP cellular technologies, APN/VPN connectivity, Wi-SUN mesh, and network performance management.
- Experience translating business and operational needs into technical requirements, design criteria, testable acceptance criteria, and deployment-ready engineering artifacts.
- Strong vendor management, technical review, issue resolution, and cross-functional communication skills.
Desired Skills/Attributes:
- AMI 1.0 or AMI 2.0 experience, including meter-to-head-end communications, smart grid field networks, meter data collection, and operational telemetry.
- Utility, OT, grid communications, or critical infrastructure experience.
- Experience with carrier negotiations, coverage analysis, telecom service provisioning, network monitoring, and service-level performance reporting.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements for telecom, wireless, cloud interconnection, and utility communications environments.
- Ability to create executive-ready technical recommendations, risk summaries, and solution comparison materials.
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, and relevant telecommunications engineering experience may be considered.
Minimum Years of Experience:
8+ years of telecommunications engineering experience, including experience delivering wireless, carrier, field network, or critical infrastructure communications solutions
