Job summary

Labcorp in Santa Fe, NM is seeking a Senior Cytogenetic Technologist to perform chromosome analysis, karyotyping and FISH, and to contribute to the development of new lab procedures. The role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities include training staff, interpreting results, and ensuring quality across rotations. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant science and 5+ years of clinical lab experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• 5+ years of clinical laboratory testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform scanning, microscope analysis and imaging of chromosomes.
• Complete rotations including karyotyping, culture, harvest, banding, scanning and analysis.
• Perform routine and complex FISH hybridization analysis.
• Summarize test results using ISCN nomenclature.
• Review test requisitions to gather relevant details.
• Distinguish between normal and abnormal results.
• Troubleshoot and improve lab procedures.
• Independently perform lab tasks and projects for technology development.
• Train technicians and technologists in lab procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by lab supervisor.

Location: Santa Fe, NM

Work Schedules

• Sunday - Thursday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and/or Tuesday - Saturday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Training Schedule

• 1st Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

$1,000 sign‑on bonus

Technical Responsibilities

• Perform scanning, microscope analysis and imaging of chromosomes.
• Complete all rotations in a particular laboratory including karyotyping of cytogenetics specimens, culture, harvest, banding of slide, scanning and analysis.
• Routine and complex FISH hybridization analysis.
• Summarize test results utilizing ISCN nomenclature.
• Review test requisition to gather pertinent details for the analysis.
• Distinguish between normal and abnormal test results.
• Troubleshoot and work on improving lab procedures.
• Independently perform laboratory tasks.
• Perform independent projects as directed for development of new technologies or procedures.
• Train technicians and technologists in lab procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by lab supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology 5 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience

Preferred Qualification

• Current or prior Labcorp experience ASCP in Cytogenetics or AMT certification

Additional Job Standards

• Education must be from an accredited US University
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
