Job summary

Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX, is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Technician to support experimental testing, handling piping, fixtures, and instrumentation in a controlled environment. You will work with engineers and technicians to load, unload materials, operate cranes, forklifts, and assist in equipment servicing.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and 2+ years of mechanical experience, with valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years: Familiarity with mechanical tools, general laboratory equipment, and piping systems.
• 2-10 years: Related mechanical experience to include equipment repair, plumbing, plant/process/oilfield operations, HVAC, etc.

Responsibilities

• Install and remove piping components and assemblies, assist in assembling and disassembling test fixtures and mechanical hardware.
• Load, unload, move materials and equipment for operations.
• Drive Institute vehicles and forklifts.
• Operate cranes and other lifts.
• Assist in the servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and fluid handling equipment.
• Assist in the installation and wiring of instrumentation.
• Support operations of elevated-pressure flow loop test facilities.
• Communicate with SwRI staff, customer, and vendors regarding work status, progress, problems/solutions, and results.
• Participate in continuous operational and safety improvement processes while working in a team environment with a collaborative approach.
