GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in the modernization and repair of cranes. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades, as well as resolving complex malfunctions. The role requires self-sufficiency, leadership, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and liaise between management and customers. This position operates in a safety-first environment and requires availability for on-call, after-hours, and weekend services based on customer needs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be available for on-call and after-hours services as needed.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
  • Train and mentor field technicians.
  • Perform OSHA-required crane inspections, generate reports, and repair orders.
  • Coordinate with Service and Branch Managers to schedule and complete work.
  • Consult with customers on repair and safety issues, providing recommendations for service improvements.
  • Maintain company equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe working order.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles responsibly; report deficiencies.
  • Keep supplies and materials in the company vehicle.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Attend training and seminars as required.
  • Participate in HCSG 5 Marks program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This labor-intensive work requires lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs rarely. It involves climbing, balancing, stooping, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing/sitting. Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling are also required. Work at heights over 50 feet is common. Travel (20-50%) and flexible shifts, including on-call and overtime, are expected. Out-of-town travel may be necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors or outdoors, subject to extreme temperatures, noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors, depending on weather and customer requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-7 years of crane repair & maintenance experience.
  • 3-4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience if lacking crane-specific experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable record.
  • Commitment to safety in work and driving.
  • Willingness to work at heights.
  • Basic computer skills for web-based inspection programs.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and possession of hand tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vocational/Technical training certificate.

Must pass pre-employment drug test, background check, and submit to ongoing testing.
