Position Summary

Role summary: The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards. This role oversees preventive maintenance programs, manages refrigerant handling, and coordinates field teams to optimize equipment performance. The position requires detailed documentation, vendor coordination, and participation in on-call rotations to support critical business needs. The Senior Technician also mentors team members, supports process improvements, and contributes to special projects, driving operational excellence and adherence to regulatory requirements across multiple facilities. About the team: This team oversees scheduled maintenance and resource coordination to ensure facilities operate safely, cleanly, and efficiently. They collaborate with internal and external partners to maintain compliance with safety and environmental standards while managing costs effectively. Focused on accountability and problem‑solving, the team drives continuous improvement and operational excellence. Their efforts support a positive environment by delivering reliable service and upholding quality standards, ensuring HVAC and refrigeration systems perform optimally to meet business and customer needs.

What you’ll do
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
  • Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtime.
  • Manage refrigerant handling, parts inventory, and vendor relationships in compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
  • Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands‑on training and evaluating skill development.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations to support critical business needs and incident resolution.
  • Maintain company vehicles and ensure adherence to safety and operational policies.
What you’ll bring
  • Proven experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and ductwork.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
  • Ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands‑on training and evaluating technician performance.
  • Proficiency in managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, and coordinating service workloads to meet business priorities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to support process improvements and cross‑functional initiatives.
  • Commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of facility services.
Salary

The hourly wage range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00*. *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
  • 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC‑R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state‑issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a 2‑year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.
