Job summary

Oceaneering is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to develop and maintain technical documentation in a coordinated team environment, interfacing with managers and engineers across departments. The role covers Microsoft Office manuals and SGML/XML-based publications, with a hybrid work arrangement in Hanover, MD.

You will research with SMEs, interpret drawings, create manuals, coordinate graphics, and ensure publications meet established standards while supporting product development and field

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or Communications; significant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 2–6 years of experience in preparing and reviewing technical materials for publication including maintenance, operations, troubleshooting, and setup/tear down procedures without source data.
• Experience developing technical documentation in an engineering environment.
• Ability to work independently and in a small team environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the company and subcontractor organizations.
• Working knowledge of government and commercial contract requirements.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and data.
• Experience with large-scale commercial and/or military systems.

Job description

The Senior Technical Writer develops and maintains technical documentation in a coordinated team management environment. This role requires interactions with managers and engineering staff in all departments. The Senior Technical Writer will support the creation of technical manuals in Microsoft Office applications, as well as digital SGML/XML manuals. This is a hybrid position, with offices located in Hanover, MD.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering information and drawings.
• Write product descriptions, theory of operations, and other technical manuals and documentation.
• Write and edit documentation according to published department standards and procedures.
• Create simple illustrations and screen captures as needed. Coordinate the efforts of graphic designers for more complicated illustrations.
• Submit drafts to SMEs and peers; incorporate review comments into documents.

• Ability to obtain security clearance.
• Experience with SMGL/XML based authoring and content management software, such as MadCap Flare, Arbortext, or Eagle Publishing System.

The salary range for this position is $87,100 - $130,700
