Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Trainer, with expertise in electrical systems, top drive systems, automated catwalks, wrenches, and/or integrated rig control systems, to join our team in the oil and gas industry. This role is responsible for delivering both classroom and hands-on training to field technicians, engineers, and other personnel to enhance their technical capabilities and operational performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems, especially in integrated rig technologies, and will be passionate about knowledge transfer and continuous learning.
Note: This is not a field-based position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver Webex-based training to customers across multiple time zones.
- Conduct classroom and hands-on instruction in the operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, top drive systems, automated catwalks, wrenches, and integrated rig control systems.
- Provide individualized coaching and constructive feedback to address skill gaps and enhance performance.
- Share industry best practices and safety protocols specific to the supported equipment.
- Assist trainees with real-time troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain training curriculum and supporting documentation.
- Create technical manuals, visual aids, and troubleshooting guides.
- Track trainee progress and provide regular feedback; document and report performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
- Partner with operational teams to align training content with technical and organizational objectives; act as a liaison between trainees and leadership to communicate needs and concerns effectively.
- Observe and assess personnel during training sessions to evaluate technical proficiency and adherence to safety protocols; provide hands-on guidance and written competency assessments.
- Stay current with technological developments in top drives, catwalks, wrenches, and rig control systems; integrate emerging trends and technologies into training programs; serve as a subject matter expert for electrical and rig equipment systems, supporting field teams in complex troubleshooting efforts.
- Assist operational teams in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues while providing training opportunities for personnel.
Minimum Qualifications / Skills
- Education and/or Experience - High school diploma and/or trade/technical school diploma and 7+ years of hands-on experience with top drive, automated catwalks, wrenches and/or integrated rig control systems in the oil and gas industry.
- Technical Skills - Proficiency in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of various models and versions of at least one of the following: top drives, automated catwalks and wrenches or integrated rig control systems.
- Electrical Skills - Proficiency in electrical systems related to oil and gas or similar industries.
- Language Skills - Fluent in English with the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, develops alternative solutions, works well in a problem-solving situation.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and compute rates, ratios and percentages.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to carry out detailed but straightforward instructions and handle problems with a few concrete variables.
- Computer Skills - General knowledge of word processing software and email; basic computer operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of Microsoft Office and PowerPoint
- Advanced Mechanical and Electrical training or experience
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems related to rig equipment
- Extended knowledge of generator controls and VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) systems
- Fluent in Spanish is a plus

Technical Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
- Skilled in equipment troubleshooting and repair
- Experience using process meters and micrometers
- Familiarity with OEM drilling equipment
- Skilled in low- and medium-voltage electrical systems (up to 600V)
- Hydraulic and mechanical system expertise
