Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist in the Srinivasan Lab to own day-to-day lab operations, enabling the PI to focus on high-impact research. You will manage the AXR confocal microscope, support experiments, and help with data organization and manuscript preparation.

The role involves 50–60% bench work, coordination of instrument maintenance and inventory, and compliance with institutional policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or related field.

Responsibilities

Senior Technical Specialist - Srinivasan Lab

Serve as the first point of responsibility for routine laboratory operations, allowing the PI to spend substantially less time on ordering, mouse management, genotyping, organizational issues, and routine follow-up.

The primary expectation is to take ownership of appropriate day-to-day laboratory operations, identify needs proactively, and address routine issues without requiring repeated PI involvement.

Experimental and scientific support

• Manage the AXR confocal microscope, which is used by the entire CVB program.
• Perform experiments approximately 50-60% of the time.
• Work with the PI on technically demanding experiments and help establish new procedures.
• Assist postdocs with data organization, figure preparation, Methods/Results drafts, and manuscript preparation when appropriate.

Laboratory operations

• Ensure routine laboratory organization and responsibilities are coordinated and completed.
• Participate in ordering and maintenance of inventory, reagents, antibody/oligo lists, and shared protocols.
• Coordinate instrument scheduling and maintenance.
• Work collaboratively with laboratory members to coordinate projects, communication, and workflow.
• Serve as an emergency contact for the lab and help address urgent issues during weekends and holidays, with availability discussed in advance with the PI or other laboratory members.
• Help ensure laboratory compliance with institutional policies.

Mouse colony and compliance

• Participate in mouse colony management, breeding, genotyping, and coordination of experimental cohorts.
• Manage mouse import/export.
• Draft and maintain IACUC protocols, amendments, and related records.
• Help reduce the PI's routine involvement in colony management and genotyping.

Training and documentation

• Participate in training new laboratory personnel.
• Maintain important protocols, datasets, and experimental records.
• Promote cross-training so that essential techniques are not dependent on a single person.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or a related field, plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Advanced expertise in a specific scientific field with demonstrated ability to perform complex laboratory assignments accurately and effectively.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while developing and maintaining effective relationships with vendors, coworkers, scientific staff, and administrative personnel.
• Demonstrated initiative in developing and improving laboratory methods, procedures, and protocols to enhance efficiency.
• Strong ability to organize, interpret, and communicate complex scientific data and information.
• Ability to read and interpret complex protocols, procedures, instructions, and technical correspondence; perform complex mathematical calculations; and prepare technical reports and correspondence.
• Proficiency with computers and Internet-based research tools to obtain information, analyze data, and improve laboratory efficiency.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to train, guide, and motivate staff and share knowledge and technical expertise.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, new methods, procedures, and instructions while maintaining professionalism and high ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience and success with histology strongly desired.
• Compliance experience especially with IACUC.
• Experience serving as a technical resource for research projects.
• Experience collaborating with other laboratories and technical advisors on experimental design and procedures.
• Experience assisting with the preparation of research findings for publication.

Work Hours:

• Work hours are typically Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm.
