You will partner with design and engineering to launch compelling solutions for The Baltimore Banner and The Pittsburgh Post‑Gazette.

A goal‑oriented, problem‑solving mindset with experience in digital news and editorial products is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of product management experience, with digital media experience preferred.
• Proven track record of taking ideas from concept to execution with increasing complexity.
• Experience writing technical reports or documentation; background in software engineering.
• Systems troubleshooting, bug identification, test planning, and documenting baselines.
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate a vision and solutions to stakeholders and teams.
• Ability to influence others and build consensus amid ambiguity.
• A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.

About this role: The Venetoulis Institute for Local Journalism is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and tech‑savvy product leader with a passion for local news to help drive engagement, evolve internal tools, and drive operational efficiency. The role will manage and quickly interpret business and customer needs, and partner with product design and engineering to launch compelling solutions. You’ll work with editorial, marketing, audience, analytics, and business development teams to identify and prioritize product needs for The Baltimore Banner and The Pittsburgh Post‑Gazette. A goal‑oriented mindset, energy for problem solving, and bias for action are essential. Bonus points for experience in digital news, editorial products, and building responsive web and mobile app products (Android and iOS).

Job Responsibilities

• Define and shape the product roadmap to solve critical problems and drive engagement, revenue growth, personalization, and operational efficiency.

• Systems troubleshooting, bug identification, test plan execution, and documentation related to system baselines.
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate a creative vision, concepts, ideas, and solutions clearly and effectively to stakeholders and internal teams.
• Ability to influence others and build consensus while dealing with ambiguity.
• A degree in a relevant academic discipline (e.g., science/engineering, visual or experiential design, journalism or domain expertise) or equivalent professional experience.

Salary Range

$120,000 - $145,000. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by several factors, including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. This role is not eligible for corporate bonus opportunity.
