Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead for Microgrid and Battery Energy Storage to join our Energy Team. This HYBRID role focuses on planning, feasibility, design and construction for microgrid and renewable energy projects across multiple locations in the US.

You will interface with clients, coordinate internal resources, develop ROI estimates, and produce detailed design packages and technical reports using Homer PRO and Helioscope.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field and 8+ years of experience.
  • Experience in microgrid design and architecture with energy storage systems.
  • Knowledge of microgrid controls and regulatory aspects of deployment.
  • Knowledge of renewable technologies and components of microgrids and energy storage.
  • Familiarity with single line diagrams.
  • Experience with Homer PRO and Helioscope.
  • Ability to develop detailed design documents.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with clients to identify project needs, communicate engineering solutions, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Coordinate internal resources and subcontractors for technical execution.
  • Develop cost estimates to determine ROI.
  • Write technical reports for clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop microgrid solutions using industry software (e.g. Homer Grid).
  • Review or originate solar design packages and energy production modeling.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships across the portfolio.
  • Lead and support development of technical proposals.
  • Assist recruitment and building a team to support growth.
  • Travel within the United States as needed.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead for Microgrid and Battery Energy Storage to join our growing Energy Team. This position is HYBRID.

This position will provide technical oversight and also perform technical tasks for planning, feasibility, design and construction projects on a variety of projects focusing on Microgrid, BESS and renewable energy projects.

The successful candidate should be a dynamic, self-directed individual with an excellent understanding of developing, designing and implementing microgrid solutions for a wide variety of end-uses.

  • Interface regularly with the clients to identify project needs, communicate engineering solutions, and strengthen client relationships.
  • Working with interdisciplinary technical leads in coordinated successful execution of projects
  • Coordinating internal resources and third parties/subcontractors for the technical execution of scope
  • Develop cost estimates to determine ROI
  • Write technical reports to communicate findings to clients and stakeholders
  • Develop detailed microgrid solutions utilizing industry recognized software (e.g. Homer Grid)
  • Review or originate solar engineering design packages
  • Review or originate energy production modeling
  • Developing and maintaining good client relationships across the portfolio
  • Lead and support development of technical proposals.
  • Training others to learn project management skills
  • Occasional travel within the United States will be required
  • Assist recruit and build a team of professionals to support the growth strategy

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field + 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Relevant experience in energy services or related industry with:
  • Microgrid design and architecture as well as knowledge of energy storage systems
  • Knowledge of advancements in microgrid controls as well as up to date on regulatory and legislative aspects of microgrid deployment
  • Knowledge of renewable technologies and all components of microgrids and energy storage.
  • Single line diagrams
  • Experience utilizing software related to microgrid and renewables (e.g. Homer PRO, Helioscope)
  • Capability of developing detailed design documents
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Working knowledge of microgrid and battery regulations in large population centers such as California and New York
  • Experience in CAISO processes
  • PE license in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven experience leading complex technical projects in multiple locations
