Job summary

Guidehouse is seeking a Senior Technical Editor to support federal client research communications. You will lead editorial review, manage publication workflows, and mentor staff across technical reports, newsletters, and web content.

The role requires translating complex research into clear, authoritative publications while ensuring GPO/Chicago style compliance and 508 accessibility. The position is based on-site in Washington, DC with Guidehouse offices in Arlington, VA / Tysons Corner, VA, and

Qualifications

• Master's degree in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
• 10+ years of technical editing, publishing, communications, or editorial experience.
• Supervisory and project management experience.
• Experience overseeing editorial staff and mentoring junior editors and writers.
• Expert knowledge of the Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual.
• Knowledge of federal publishing requirements.
• Experience managing publication workflows and the full lifecycle of technical documents from development through final publication.
• Experience with substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading, rewriting, and fact-checking.
• Experience verifying citations, references, technical accuracy, and copyright compliance.
• Experience supporting Section 508-compliant publications and digital content.
• Strong quality assurance, document management, and version-control skills.
• Experience coordinating reviews and approvals among multiple stakeholders.
• Must work from client site in Washington, DC and Guidehouse office in Arlington, VA/Tysons Corner, VA.

Responsibilities

• Lead editorial review, quality assurance, and publication management for technical reports and publications.
• Oversee editorial process for high-visibility publications ensuring consistency across programs.
• Supervise and mentor editors, writers, and support staff.
• Perform substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading, rewriting, formatting, and fact-checking.
• Verify technical accuracy, references, copyrights, and permissions.
• Translate complex research into clear publications for diverse audiences.
• Ensure compliance with GPO Style Manual and 508 accessibility standards.
• Manage publication intake, schedules, workflows, reviews, and approvals.
• Coordinate with researchers, engineers, and stakeholders throughout publication.
• Direct quality control reviews to meet agency standards.
• Support publishing across print, digital, and web platforms.
• Work independently managing multiple publications in a fast-paced federal environment.
