Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Technical Editor to lead editorial efforts for high-stakes DOT/FHA documentation in the National Capital Region, with onsite work in Washington, DC, and McLean, VA, and potential remote options.

The candidate should have 10+ years of supervisory/proj ect management experience, a Master’s degree or higher in English, journalism, or a technical field, and U.S. citizenship. This is a full-time W-2 role requiring Public Trust clearance.

• Oversee the editorial process for high-stakes technical documentation across large programs.
• Mentor junior staff and develop editorial talent.

• Verify technical accuracy and agency style guide compliance for all documents, reports, and manuals.
• Manage the full lifecycle of documents from outline to final publication, including online publishing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire editorial process for high-stakes technical documentation, ensuring stylistic consistency across large-scale programs
• Mentor junior staff
• Transform raw data and engineering jargon into authoritative documents that meet the stringent requirements of the agency, including reference checking, fact checking, and ensuring copyright compliance
• Verify technical accuracy and ensure compliance with agency style guides for all documents, reports, and manuals
• Manage the full lifecycle of a document from outline to final publication including online and web publishing

Required Skills and Experience

• 10 or more years of supervisory and project management experience
• U.S. Citizenship required for this position
