Our client, an award-winning architecture and interiors firm, is looking for a Senior Technical Designer to join its San Francisco studio.
This is a key technical position for someone who understands how to take strong design ideas and turn them into highly coordinated, buildable spaces. Working across sophisticated workplace and commercial interiors projects, you'll provide technical leadership from design development through construction documentation and construction administration.
You’ll work closely with designers, project managers, consultants and contractors, helping protect the original design intent while making sure projects are technically resolved, code compliant and successfully delivered.
Provide technical leadership across workplace and commercial interiors projects from design development through construction
Translate design concepts into coordinated, buildable and code-compliant technical solutions
Lead the development and coordination of construction documents
Develop and review plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, lighting, power/signal plans and interior details
Lead interior detailing, millwork and custom architectural elements
Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, A/V, acoustical and other building systems
Work closely with Project Designers to maintain design intent throughout technical development
Lead drawing coordination and QA/QC reviews
Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, fabricators and vendors
Conduct field surveys and document existing conditions
Support permitting and agency approval processes
Lead construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, site observations and punch walks
Resolve technical and construction issues throughout project delivery
Mentor junior and intermediate designers and support technical development across the team
8+ years of professional experience in interior architecture, architecture or technical design
Strong experience delivering corporate workplace and commercial interiors projects
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or a related discipline
Advanced Revit skills and strong BIM knowledge
Strong understanding of construction documentation and interior detailing
Excellent knowledge of building codes, accessibility, egress and life-safety requirements
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants and complex building systems
Strong understanding of materials, finishes, millwork and construction methods
Experience with construction administration and resolving issues in the field
Ability to lead technical coordination while maintaining design intent
Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills
Experience mentoring and supporting less experienced team members
Professional licensure, NCIDQ, LEED, WELL or similar accreditation would be an advantage.
