Job description

Senior Technical Designer, New Game Team

A few years ago, Supercell started two new game development teams in North America. These teams offer a unique opportunity for team members: full creative freedom and independence to create new games without the distractions of establishing a new company. Our goal is to develop innovative games that players haven't seen from Supercell before, across multiple platforms, not just mobile. In essence: let's build something new!

One of these teams seeks an experienced technical designer to elevate our game's core gameplay and technical systems. As a core team member, you'll be energized by the ambition, creativity, and responsibility involved. This highly collaborative role will influence game concept, core systems, and mechanics design. We seek a hands-on designer who can implement and iterate, not just paper design. This role offers growth, ownership, and the chance to do your best work yet.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead the design and development of deep, robust game systems and mechanics for core gameplay, including combat, player movement, and interactions.
  2. Design and prototype end-to-end experiences with satisfying, novel core mechanics and loops to create rewarding, immersive player experiences.
  3. Create fluid player interactions with rich feedback and polished game feel.
  4. Use visual and written scripting languages to create, iterate, and balance game mechanics and modular systems.
  5. Implement tuning and data changes for optimizing player experience, using qualitative and quantitative data on player types and motivations.
  6. Contribute to game direction and design choices, with attention to detail to build immersive player experiences.

Requirements

  1. Proven mastery of game development and design through commercial or indie projects focusing on game systems and progression.
  2. Ability to prototype and implement systems using Unreal blueprints or C/C++.
  3. Collaborate closely with disciplines like game design, art, and sound.
  4. Work independently in a high-trust environment, taking initiative and creating innovative solutions.
  5. Maintain high standards for ambition and quality.
  6. Comfort with taking risks and viewing failure as a learning opportunity.
  7. Approach teammates with kindness and humility, offering constructive feedback.
  8. Availability to work remotely during core hours (10:00am-4:00pm PST).
  9. Willingness to travel approximately once a month domestically and twice a year internationally for up to a week.
