Role Description

Liberty Mutual is seeking an Excess Coverage and Specialized Senior Technical Claims Specialist for our Excess, Coverage and Specialized Claims Unit. You will handle a portfolio of Commercial Casualty Excess/Umbrella and Specialized claims, including but not limited to unsupported excess General Liability and Commercial Auto Claims, Premises Liability, Auto, and Products Liability, as well as specialized claims like Mass Torts, Employers Liability, Environmental, and Specialty claims across the U.S. Experience with complex excess claims is preferred.

Responsibilities include conducting investigations, setting reserves, monitoring claims, assessing risk transfer, and settling claims efficiently within authority limits. You may need to work in the office twice a month if residing within 50 miles of specified locations, subject to policy changes.

Key Responsibilities

• Determine coverage, investigate claims, evaluate liability, set reserves, negotiate settlements, and authorize payments.
• Review lawsuit documentation, establish actions for resolution, and manage legal relationships.
• Manage outside counsel and claims files securely.
• Train and mentor staff; collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
• Stay informed on legislation, court decisions, and trends affecting claims.
• Lead or participate in special projects.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have experience managing Commercial Excess and Umbrella claims, particularly in areas like Premises Liability, Employers Liability, Environmental, Auto, and Products Liability, with claims averaging $1-3 million or more. Strong knowledge of claims investigation, coverage, reserving, and legal environment is required. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is preferred.
