CoStar Group, Inc. is hiring a Senior Technical Business Analyst for the Enterprise Data Services – Finance (EDS-F) team in Arlington, VA. The role focuses on gathering and writing requirements, querying data with SQL, and translating business needs into technical specifications.

You will act as the primary liaison between EDS-F and engineering, product, Finance, and Accounting, coordinating intake, scope, risks, and release readiness across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; fields preferred include Business, Information Systems, CS, Finance.
• 5+ years as a BA/TA/PO on software delivery teams.
• Ability to write and run SQL queries, join tables, and investigate data independently.
• Experience writing requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for engineering teams.

CoStar Group is hiring a Senior Technical Business Analyst for the Enterprise Data Services – Finance (EDS-F) team. EDS-F builds and supports the platforms that run CoStar’s financial systems, including billing, contracts, and enterprise financial data services.

This is a technical role. You will gather and write requirements, but you will also read data, query it, and validate it yourself. You will use SQL daily.

This Technical Business Analyst will also act as the primary point of contact between EDS-F and the teams that depend on us. You will represent the team in planning discussions, intake conversations, and cross-team design reviews. You will translate in both directions: business need into technical requirements, and platform constraints into terms that partner teams understand. You will support the engineering managers with the delivery process. This includes intake, scope definition, risk and decision tracking, and release coordination.

This position is located in Arlington, VA and is in office Monday through Thursday and work from home on Friday.

Responsibilities

Requirements and Analysis

• Elicit, analyze, and document business and technical requirements for EDS-F initiatives.
• Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria that engineers can build from without rework.
• Query and profile data with SQL to confirm assumptions, size the work, and validate results.
• Document As-Is and To-Be process flows. Use sequence diagrams, use cases, and process maps.
• Review API contracts and data payloads with engineers to confirm the requirement is achievable.
• Support user acceptance testing. Define test scenarios and confirm that delivered work meets the stated criteria.

Cross-Team Liaison

• Act as the first point of contact between EDS-F and partner teams in engineering, product, Finance, and Accounting.
• Run intake for incoming requests. Clarify the need, assess the impact, and route or scope the work.
• Represent EDS-F in cross-team design reviews, planning sessions, and dependency discussions.
• Explain platform constraints, data models, and delivery timelines to non-EDS-F audiences.

Delivery and Process Support

• Support engineering managers through the SDLC. This covers intake, scope, estimates, and release readiness.
• Track risks, issues, action items, and decisions. Follow up until each item closes.
• Maintain and improve team documentation, templates, and standard operating procedures.
• Identify process gaps and inefficiencies, then propose and drive the fix.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited, not for profit, in person, university or college.Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field are preferred.

• A track record of commitment to prior employers

• 5+ years as a business analyst, technical analyst, or product owner on software delivery teams.

• Ability to write and run SQL queries without help. You can join tables, aggregate results, and investigate a data question on your own.

• Experience writing requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for engineering teams.

• Experience with process modeling: use cases, sequence diagrams, and process flow charts.

• Experience as the interface between business stakeholders and engineers, including groups with competing priorities.

• Experience supporting an Agile or iterative delivery process.

• Clear written and verbal communication. You can write a business case and also brief an engineer.

• Experience managing several concurrent initiatives and tracking them to closure.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Experience with financial systems: billing, contracts, revenue, or enterprise financial data.
• Experience with data platforms and reporting. This includes warehouse concepts and BI tools.
• Experience testing APIs with tools such as Postman.
• Product owner or project management experience.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence as daily working tools.
• Experience with SOX controls, audit evidence, or another regulated environment.
• Experience with AI assistants such as Claude or Copilot to speed up analysis, documentation, and delivery work.

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.

Base Compensation: $115,000 - $149,000 Annually
