Would you like to use your Salesforce architectural expertise to help make our beautiful state even better? At OIT, we build secure, scalable digital solutions that put Coloradans first.
The Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Senior Technical Architect (Salesforce) to serve as the primary technical authority and platform strategist across the Salesforce ecosystem. In this role, you will drive architecture, define declarative and custom technical standards, guide multi-org platform expansion, and ensure seamless integration between Salesforce orgs and state systems. Working closely with the Manager of a Salesforce team, product managers, agency leadership, POD teams, and development team, you will align technical strategy with state agency mission objectives, enforce DevSecOps and security governance, and systematically rationalize technical debt to ensure scalable, resilient, and secure public service delivery.
Essential Functions
- Enterprise Platform Architecture & Technical Strategy (Platform-Centric)
- Design and maintain the strategic architectural roadmap for the Salesforce ecosystem across multi-tenant orgs.
- Define core application deployment patterns, data models, integration frameworks (REST/SOAP, event-driven, enterprise service bus), and technical standards.
- Evaluate out-of-the-box (OOTB) Salesforce capabilities vs. custom Apex/Lightning Web Component (LWC) development to maximize standard feature reuse and maintainability.
- Guide cloud platform migrations, application modernizations, and emerging Salesforce technology adoptions (e.g., Data Cloud, Einstein AI, OmniStudio, Agentforce).
Expected Outcome
Establish a scalable, unified multi-org platform architecture that increases out-of-the-box feature utilization, reduces bespoke custom code, and ensures long-term system maintainability across state deployments.
- Operational Excellence, DevSecOps & Delivery (Operational-Centric)
- Establish and enforce modern engineering, release management, and DevSecOps pipelines using automated CI/CD tools, version control, and static code analysis.
- Lead environment and sandbox management strategies, data masking, and automated deployment processes across development, staging, and production orgs.
- Optimize system performance, transaction processing, Governor limits, and batch Apex frameworks to eliminate operational bottlenecks and maintain high platform uptime.
- Establish automated testing, regression frameworks, and continuous monitoring to streamline release quality.
Expected Outcome
Increase deployment velocity and release stability while reducing manual deployment overhead through automated CI/CD pipelines and Policy-as-Code gating.
- Agency Partnership, Solution Design & Integration (Agency-Centric)
- Serve as the dedicated technical authority collaborating with agency leadership, delivery PODs, and IT directors (e.g., CDLE) to translate complex program mandates into viable technical architectures.
- Design tailored end-to-end solutions that meet agency-specific operational workflows while preserving enterprise platform standards and reusability.
- Facilitate technical discovery sessions, solution architecture reviews, and technical feasibility assessments for agency intake requests.
- Ensure clear alignment between agency strategic roadmaps, OIT service delivery models, and constituent-facing digital service channels.
Expected Outcome
Achieve high agency stakeholder satisfaction by accelerating request onboarding, reducing technical discovery lead times, and delivering agency-focused modernizations that directly improve constituent services.
- Platform Governance, Technical Debt & Architecture Oversight
- Establish and chair the Salesforce Architecture Review Board (ARB) to review and approve major design patterns, data models, and enterprise integrations.
- Conduct systematic evaluations of legacy Salesforce orgs to identify, prioritize, and remediate technical debt, redundant custom code, and deprecated configurations.
- Formulate platform governance policies, naming conventions, design guidelines, and environment branching strategies.
- Expected Outcome: Eliminate technical debt across legacy orgs, replacing monolithic custom solutions with standardized, low-code configurations and establishing 100% ARB review coverage for enterprise changes.
- Security, Compliance & System Resilience
- Enforce enterprise security architecture, role hierarchies, sharing rules, field-level security, and encryption standards in compliance with State and federal regulations (NIST 800-53, IRS Pub 1075, HIPAA, CJIS, and Section 508 / WCAG accessibility standards).
- Design robust disaster recovery (DR), data backup, and business continuity architectures to achieve target Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) metrics.
- Conduct technical risk assessments, audit logging, and vulnerability remediation across all Salesforce orgs.
- Expected Outcome: Maintain zero high-risk security findings, transition to an automated compliance model, and ensure 100% compliance with accessibility and security gating prior to production releases.
- Technical Leadership, Mentorship & Capacity Building
- Provide expert technical direction, code reviews, and architectural guidance to principal developers, senior developers, developers, and administrators.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation within the enterprise Salesforce development team.
- Build internal technical capacity and establish best-practice playbooks to diminish key-person dependency and reduce reliance on third-party vendor implementation consultants.
- Expected Outcome: Elevate internal engineering capabilities, establishing documented architectural standards and mentorship programs that decrease external vendor consulting costs.
