Brief Job Overview

The Senior Technical Advisor, Pricing Strategy & Access provides strategic and technical leadership for the design and implementation of pricing, affordability, and market access interventions under the Medicines Supply Resilience (MedSuRe) project.

The role focuses on ensuring that quality-assured, regionally manufactured essential medicines are competitively and sustainably priced across a range of market channels, including public and private sector markets, to support uptake, scale, and long-term access. This includes supporting manufacturers and partners through cost-of- goods sold (COGS) analysis, pricing scenario development, and market assessments that reflect diverse purchasing environments.

The Senior Technical Advisor works closely with market access, procurement, regulatory, and manufacturing teams; MedSuRe consortium partners; and national, regional, and global stakeholders to address pricing-and-access-related barriers across multiple market segments.

How will YOU create impact here at USP?

As part of our mission to advance scientific rigor and public health standards, you will play a vital role in increasing global access to high-quality medicines through public standards and related programs. USP prioritizes scientific integrity, regulatory excellence, and evidence-based decision-making to ensure health systems worldwide can rely on strong, tested, and globally relevant quality standards.

Additionally, USP’s People and Culture division, in partnership with the Equity Office, invests in leadership and workforce development to equip all employees with the skills to create high-performing, inclusive teams. This includes training in equitable management practices and tools to promote engaged, collaborative, and results-driven work environments.

The Senior Technical Advisor Has The Following Responsibilities
  • Lead pricing strategy, affordability, and access analyses for MedSuRe-supported products across public and private sector markets, including price benchmarking and market segmentation.
  • Conduct and support cost-of- goods sold (COGS) analyses in collaboration with manufacturers and technical teams to inform realistic, competitive pricing strategies.
  • Translate COGS insights into pricing scenarios tailored to different market channels, volumes, and purchasing mechanisms.
  • Develop and support implementation of access-oriented pricing strategies suitable for mixed markets, including tiered pricing, volume-based pricing, and channel-specific pricing approaches.
  • Work with manufacturers to align production costs, scale-up assumptions, and regulatory requirements with sustainable access objectives across multiple markets.
  • Engage with public-sector, institutional, and private-sector stakeholders on pricing and affordability considerations, including expectations for competitiveness and sustainability.
  • Contribute to broader market access and market shaping strategies, ensuring pricing decisions reflect real-world market dynamics rather than single-channel assumptions.
  • Collaborate closely with regulatory and manufacturing teams to ensure pricing strategies are consistent with quality, compliance, and commercial feasibility.
  • Represent USP and MedSuRe in technical discussions and consultations related to pricing, affordability, and access across market segments.
Who is USP Looking For?

  • Demonstrated experience supporting public-sector medicine access, pricing negotiations, or pooled procurement mechanisms.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with pricing models, affordability analyses, and market assessments.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting or interpreting COGS analyses for pharmaceuticals or health products.
  • Ability to translate cost structures into practical pricing and access recommendations for public-sector and donor-funded markets.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with manufacturers, procurement agencies, donors, and international partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages are an asset.
  • Ability to travel internationally as required (approximately 25%).
