The Senior Technical Advisor (STA), Legal Information and Education, creates and reviews client-facing information on immigration legal issues and provides training and technical assistance to legal services staff across 24 US offices. This role ensures that IRC's legal professionals, colleagues across RAI departments, and clients stay informed and updated on the evolving landscape of immigration law and policy. The STA produces clear, concise, and timely legal information, trains legal staff on policy updates, and ensures accurate and accessible information across programs. The position reports to the US Legal Services Director and collaborates with regional and departmental leaders.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develop, create, and distribute accurate materials for IRC clients and staff, including briefs, practice guides, FAQs, and policy updates. Produce multimedia content like videos and infographics.
- Conduct virtual (and potentially in-person) know-your-rights sessions to clients, leveraging digital platforms and partnerships to expand reach.
- Keep legal staff informed of relevant immigration policy changes and their implications for legal service delivery.
- Organize and deliver training sessions for legal staff, including attorneys and legal assistants, on policy shifts and case management adjustments.
- Respond to technical assistance requests on complex cases such as asylum and removal defense.
- Develop guidance notes and practice advisories for Immigration Legal Services teams.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and client-friendly immigration law content on IRC platforms.
- Monitor policy updates from agencies like USCIS, ICE, EOIR, and the Department of State.
- Potentially supervise a technical advisor or program officer in the future.
Job Requirements:
- Law degree and active membership in any state bar.
- 8-10 years of experience in non-profit immigration legal services, including at least 5 years in asylum and removal defense.
- Extensive knowledge of immigration law and procedures, including experience with EOIR and USCIS.
- Proven leadership and management skills, ability to work under pressure, and promote productivity.
- Strong analytical, organizational, training, and communication skills.
- Effective in diverse environments with excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
- Fluency in English required.
Working Environment:
- This is a fully remote position within the US.
- Travel may be required.
