Job summary

South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) seeks a senior attorney to lead complex tax and regulatory litigation, advising agency leadership and providing subject-matter expertise on SC’s sales tax matters. You will mentor junior attorneys and contribute to cross-agency legal projects.

Position may involve travel; a Juris Doctor and SC Bar admission are required. Experience in business and state tax litigation is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing of the SC Bar.
• Experience in business and tax litigation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Litigate tax and regulatory matters in state and federal courts.
• Draft Department Determinations and pleadings for protested cases.
• Serve as subject-matter expert on SC tax laws and litigation strategies.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to junior Litigation attorneys.
• Advise Chief Legal Counsel and agency divisions on legal procedures and interpretations.
