Job summary

Councilor, Buchanan & Mitchell, P.C. in Washington, DC, seeks a senior tax professional with at least six years of public accounting and tax experience to work on compilation/review and tax engagements for a diverse client base across the Mid-Atlantic.

Remote work in the United States and a flexible schedule are available. You will lead tax processes, supervise staff, prepare returns for individuals, corporations, estates and trusts, review outputs, and communicate tax developments to clients

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
• Advanced degree (Law or Master’s in Taxation) strongly desired.
• CPA certification required.
• Minimum six years of public accounting, tax, and review experience.
• At least two years of management experience and ability to lead staff.
• Proficiency in tax software (Document, Engagement, CCH Axcess Tax, QuickBooks).

Responsibilities

• Manage tax related processes, procedures, and team.
• Prepare personal, corporate, estate, and trust tax returns, including complex cases.
• Review and approve all returns (except specialized ones).
• Review tax accruals and working papers.
• Lead and supervise tax staff and supervisors.
• Represent clients before the IRS and communicate tax developments to the firm.
• Bill and discuss fees with clients and perform complex tax planning.
• Analyze IRS notices and draft responses; supervise research projects.
