Job summary

Smiths Group plc is a FTSE100, global engineering company with around 15,000 colleagues across 50 countries. We seek a senior tax professional to lead compliance, provision, advisory and controversy activities for the corporate group.

You will prepare federal and state tax calculations, manage external providers, optimize tax processes and partner with the Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting and timely filings. 5–8+ years of tax experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Master’s in Taxation or equivalent preferred.
• 5-8+ years of corporate tax experience (Big 4 and/or industry).
• Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state corporate income tax.
• ASC 740 and/or IFRS IAS 12 (tax provision).
• Experience managing external service providers and compliance processes.
• Proficiency with tax software (OneSource, CorpTax).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare federal taxable income calculations and schedules for corporate filings.
• Gather and review state tax data from controllers; analyze for reasonableness and YoY consistency.
• Coordinate with external compliance providers for timely filing of federal, state, and local returns.
• Calculate and monitor quarterly estimated tax payments and miscellaneous filings.
• Prepare and review the U.S. income tax provision (ASC 740/IAS 12) and verify tax payable balances.
