About Our Firm

We are a growing boutique CPA firm located in Torrance, California, specializing in international taxation, high-net-worth individuals, and privately held businesses. Our clients include U.S. and foreign-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, and families with complex domestic and international tax matters.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead our tax compliance practice, with a primary focus on complex business entity returns.

This position offers an opportunity to assume significant responsibility within a growing firm, lead a team of tax professionals, improve operational efficiency, and help build a scalable tax practice.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Entity Tax Compliance

  • Independently manage the preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, and LLCs.
  • Review partnership allocations, partner basis, capital accounts, shareholder basis, distributions, and related tax adjustments.
  • Address multistate filing requirements, California entity taxes, and pass-through entity tax elections.
  • Review financial statements, trial balances, and book-to-tax adjustments.
  • Research and resolve complex federal and state tax issues with minimal partner involvement.
  • Ensure timely completion and delivery of tax returns.

2. Tax Department Management

  • Assist in tax return assignments, staff workloads, and compliance deadlines.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor tax preparers and senior accountants.
  • Review staff work and provide constructive technical guidance.
  • Take ownership of the tax compliance workflow from client information collection through final review and delivery.

3. Client Management and Tax Advisory

  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned business clients on routine compliance matters.
  • Communicate directly with clients to obtain information and resolve tax questions.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate recommendations to the managing partner.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual tax projections, estimated tax payments, and entity-level tax planning.
  • Support IRS and state tax notices, examinations, and related correspondence.
  • International tax knowledge is highly desirable but not required. Strong domestic business entity tax expertise is the primary qualification.

4. Process Improvement and Technology

  • Improve tax preparation workflows to increase efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
  • Help implement tax technology, automation, and AI-assisted tools while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain standardized workpapers and documentation procedures.
  • Improve the use of existing tax preparation and practice management software.
  • Support the firm's growth by establishing efficient and scalable compliance processes.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Active CPA license.
  • At least 7 years of progressive public accounting tax experience, including substantial experience reviewing business entity returns.
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising or managing tax professionals.
  • Strong technical knowledge of partnership, S corporation, and C corporation taxation.
  • Extensive experience with federal and California business tax compliance.
  • Ability to independently review and finalize complex entity returns with limited partner supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with professional tax preparation software.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with international tax compliance, particularly Forms 5471 and 5472.
  • Experience working with foreign-owned U.S. businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Mandarin proficiency is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience implementing workflow improvements and training junior staff.
Career Growth
  • This position offers a long-term opportunity to become a key leader within the firm.
  • Depending on performance, professional development, and mutual interest, the role may evolve into Director of Tax Compliance or another senior leadership position.
  • We value technical excellence, independent judgment, professional development, and a collaborative working environment.
