Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a senior Tax Manager for our Portland, Maine office to lead tax engagements and shape the growth of the tax practice.

You will advise closely held businesses and individuals on complex planning, manage client relationships, and mentor a team of tax professionals while partnering with firm leadership to deliver high-quality, timely service across S Corporation, Partnership, and Individual tax matters.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
• Leadership experience in tax engagements.
• Active CPA license or EA.
• Strong knowledge of S Corporation, Partnership, and Individual taxation.
• Experience advising closely held businesses.
• Proven ability to manage complex client relationships.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
• Experience with tax software (CCH Axcess, CaseWare).

Responsibilities

• Review complex tax returns with emphasis on S Corporations, Partnerships, and Individuals.
• Advise closely held businesses on sophisticated tax planning strategies.
• Lead complex client engagements from planning through completion.
• Mentor tax professionals and support career development.
• Partner with firm leadership to oversee tax and advisory engagements.
• Develop expertise across industries including automotive, construction, real estate, manufacturing.
• Research complex federal and state tax matters and develop solutions.
• Manage multiple engagements and deadlines with a focus on client service.
• Foster a collaborative, people-first team culture.
