Orionplacement is seeking a senior tax leader in Latham, NY for a hybrid role with on-site expectations. You will lead tax engagements, review complex returns, and provide planning guidance while mentoring staff and coordinating engagement teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of public accounting experience required.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a related discipline.
• Experience reviewing complicated tax returns and tax workpapers.
• Prior experience serving as an in‑charge, mentor, supervisor, or people manager.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance and tax planning.
• Strong client communication and relationship‑management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines, and priorities.
• CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Lead tax engagements while coordinating staff, seniors, and other engagement team members.
• Review complex federal and state tax returns, workpapers, reports, and related deliverables for accuracy and quality.
• Provide thoughtful tax planning recommendations that consider clients' broader business goals and needs.
• Serve as a trusted client contact, answering tax questions and building strong professional relationships.
• Coach and mentor developing professionals while providing timely feedback and guidance.
• Identify tax issues, business opportunities, and potential solutions that add value for clients.
• Manage engagement budgets, timelines, workflow, and profitability.
• Assist clients with federal and state tax notices, regulatory matters, and tax audits.
• Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, brokers, taxing authorities, and other outside advisors.
• Help develop new and existing client relationships while supporting the continued growth of the practice.
