Job summary

Empirical Wealth Management is seeking a Senior Tax Associate to join our tax practice in Portland. You will engage in technical tax work, collaborative planning, and direct delivery of high-quality service to clients.

Responsibilities include tax preparation support, reviewing returns, mentoring junior staff, and providing proactive planning recommendations. Strong communication and research skills are essential in a fast-growing firm serving a broad client base.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of public accounting experience with a taxation background.
• CPA eligible or JD required; Master’s in taxation preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple client engagements and projects.
• Proficiency in tax software and research tools (CCH Axcess Tax, BNA Income Tax Planner, CCH IntelliConnect).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Willingness and desire to be part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial tax preparation support, including information gathering, workpaper creation, data entry, and first-draft return preparation.
• Review returns and selected projects prepared by Tax Associates and interns.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior team members.
• Prepare tax projections and provide proactive tax planning recommendations.
• Prepare responses to IRS and state tax notices and correspondence.
• Collaborate with the advisory team on tax planning matters and client service initiatives.
• Communicate with clients by phone and email and participate in client meetings as needed.
• Conduct tax research and provide support on technical projects and planning matters.

Compensation

• Salary range: $85,000 –$105,000
• Benefits: Medical, Vision, Dental, and Disability Insurance for employees are 100% paid for by thecompany
