Job summary

NKSFB, LLC, the leading business management firm, is seeking a Senior Tax Associate in Westwood to prepare complex tax returns and assist clients with various tax matters. You will independently handle more complex work, review simpler returns, and manage pieces of client engagement.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of tax rules, tax compliance, and tax accounting concepts, and excels in communication, organization, and time management.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience preparing complex tax returns in a public accounting, business management, or tax advisory firm.
  • Experience with tax preparation software such as BNA and CCH Axcess.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and multi-state income tax returns, including complex ones.
  • Review simpler returns prepared by junior staff.
  • Coordinate with high-net-worth individuals, families, and family offices on tax work papers.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients and management teams as needed.
  • Prepare tax accounting adjustments and financial statements for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
  • Prepare payroll tax returns for state and federal reporting.
  • Identify and implement tax strategies and respond to IRS inquiries.

Your Role:

The Tax team in Westwood is hiring a Senior Tax Associate to join our dynamic group of tax professionals. This selected candidate is influential in the process of preparing tax returns and assisting clients with various tax matters. This person independently prepares more complex tax work, begins reviewing simpler returns, and manages discrete pieces of client engagement. The Senior Tax Associate (Preparer) gathers and reviews client tax documents to prepare necessary individual, partnership, estate, corporate, and/or trust tax returns. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of common tax rules, tax compliance, and tax regulations. This person is also knowledgeable in tax accounting principles. You are a confident and professional communicator, with exceptional time management and organizational skills. The selected candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

What will you do:
  • Preparation of federal and multi-state income tax returns, including more complex returns handled independently.
  • Begin reviewing simpler returns prepared by junior staff.
  • Partner closely with high-net-worth individuals, large family groups, and family offices to handle tax work papers for their businesses, investments and estate planning entities.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients and/or business management teams as needed.
  • Prepare tax accounting adjustments and financial statements for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
  • Prepare personal, corporate, partnership, and estate/trust tax returns of varying complexity.
  • Prepare payroll tax returns for state and federal reporting.
  • Understand client tax issues and situations and assist with tax research.
  • Identify and recommend tax strategies that better position a client’s understanding of tax law.
  • Correspondence with tax authorities, and/or IRS inquiries. Draft responses to governmental queries, notes, or mandates.
  • Assist other team members with accounting responsibilities, as necessary.
  • Uphold the firm’s code of ethics and business conduct.
What Do you Need to Succeed:
  • 3+ years of experience preparing complex tax returns within a tax department in a public accounting, business management, or tax advisory firm.
  • Experience working with tax preparation software such as BNA and CCH Axcess.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organization skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills a must.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is a must.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to work well with a team and pitch in when needed.
What Will Set You Apart:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited institution strongly preferred.
  • CPA, EA, or JD license preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • All NKSFB positions work in a typical, indoor office environment.

The salary range for this role is $85,000 – $115,000 and represents the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and location.
