Hilltop Holdings is looking to hire a Senior Tax Accountant.

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for the preparation of federal, state, and local corporate income tax compliance filings and calculation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including setting up and documenting processes and procedures. Preparation of SEC ASC 740 reporting disclosure support. Preparation of return to provision adjustments, settlement of cash taxes between entities and submitting related journal entries.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of income tax returns, extensions, and estimates for federal, state, and local jurisdictions in Thomson Reuters OneSource Income Tax
• Quarterly tax provision preparation using Thomson Reuters OneSource Tax Provision to ensure accurate calculation of federal & state income taxes and compliance with SEC financial reporting requirements
• Preparation of work papers/schedules to support permanent and temporary tax differences for income tax filings
• Prepare income tax support for the SEC quarterly and annual public filings; Reconcile information required for the filings; Proofread various parts of the draft filings for consistency, document accuracy of reported income tax disclosures and resolve any error corrections
• Respond to notices from tax authorities on a timely basis as they arise
• Support and provide documentation and prepare schedules for any income tax audits
• Maintain knowledge of current tax laws and regulations
• Perform tax research utilizing professional legal services, such as RIA Checkpoint
• Evaluate tax consequences of various business operations and investment strategies
• Setting up and documenting processes and procedures related to the position and to comply with internal control and SOX requirements
• Preparation of journal entries to record tax transactions
• Preparation and analysis of multi-state apportionment work papers
• Work with others in the organization and outside accounting firms regarding tax savings ideas and initiatives to benefit the company
• Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Tax Department supervisor and management

Qualifications

• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be able to report to Republic Center @ 325 N. St. Paul Street, Dallas, without the need for relocation assistance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA certification preferred.
• 3-5 years of Corporate or public accounting income tax experience
• General tax research skills needed
• Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills
• Excellent PC skills, including Excel and spreadsheet analysis
• Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Experience with Thomson Reuters Onesource Income Tax & OneSource Tax Provision (or similar software) preferred
