Job summary

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. seeks a Senior Systems Studies Engineer to independently perform and lead power systems studies using PSLF, PSS/E, and Power World in a demanding T&D environment.

You will develop proposals, lead data-driven analyses, and present findings to customers, while mentoring teammates and managing project scope, schedule, and budget to ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• BSEE, MS/ME or PhD in electrical engineering with power emphasis and 7+ years of experience.

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) is seeking a Senior Systems Studies Engineer to independently perform and lead power systems engineering studies in the areas of electromagnetic transients, load flow, short-circuit, transient stability, control design, equipment applications, and other transmission and distribution (T&D) areas. This position will also develop proposals in response to customer specifications, RFP/RFQ, and technical information requests for power systems engineering analysis.

What You’ll Do

• Independently conduct load flow, transient stability, reactive planning, infrastructure re-enforcement, generator interconnection, and related studies, including FACTS, HVDC, and converter-based resources utilizing PSLF, PSS/E, Power World, and other similar software.
• Independently manage, lead, and further projects to ensure completion within specified schedules and budgets. Independently develop, manage, and further project plans specifying goals, strategy, budget, schedule and resource assignment. Independently prepare, review, and increase effectiveness of project activity reports and communicate to stakeholders.
• Independently prepare, present, and support others with preparation and delivery of technical reports and presentations to internal and external customers on schedule, within quality standards, with minimal re-work, and positive internal and external feedback. Ensure consistent report quality with grammar and formatting standards.
• Manage and lead the development, organization and analysis of data for systems studies. Leverage data mining and visualization techniques to perform data analysis, present data and ensure data integrity.
• Independently use C, C++, MATLAB, Java, Perl, Python, and others to enhance models and simulations. Manage and lead the development and testing of software tools to automate data analysis, data monitoring, reporting and ensuring data integrity.
• Increase efficiency, expand capabilities and support coworker use of software tools used in power systems engineering studies.
• Develop and land business opportunities towards achieving division objectives.
• Independently lead proposals in response to customer specifications, RFP/RFQ, as well as technical information requests.
• Independently prepare, present, and support others with preparation and delivery of technical reports and presentations to internal and external customers on schedule, within quality standards, with minimal re-work, and positive internal and external feedback. Ensure consistent report quality with grammar and formatting standards.
• Achieve, enhance quality standards and set examples for meeting schedules for simulation model development, analytics, and reporting. Use, lead and enhance an engineered process throughout the stages of the study.
• Represent MEPPI as an industry leader in interpretation of concepts in grid planning, interconnection, operations, equipment application, and associated history and evolution of standards, orders, guidelines, and tariffs for use in studies.
• Further teams' ability to condition models and judge simulation output based on expected system and equipment capabilities and operation. Further teams' ability to estimate system and equipment parameters based on known values, where applicable, or to provide feedback when such values are questionable.

What You’ll Bring

• Engineering degree: BSEE, MS/ME, or PhD (or equivalent) in electrical engineering with emphasis on electric power engineering with a minimum of 7 year of experience in the power systems studies consulting field or electric utility system planning field or with a transmission and distribution manufacturer’s application engineering group, or equivalent education and experience.
• Advanced knowledge of electric power systems and equipment operation and control.
• Advanced organizational, interpersonal, presentation, communication and technical writing skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
• Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced business environment.
• Expertise and leadership with the following programs and modeling tools:
• Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and related
• PSLF, PSS/E, Power World, and related
• Python
• Advanced knowledge of industry standards and guides (NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE).
