Job summary

Eastern Connecticut State University seeks a Senior Systems Software and Integration Engineer to lead design, development, testing and deployment of enterprise information systems.

You will coordinate with programmers, manage small projects, and ensure secure, high-availability operations across ERP environments including Ellucian Banner and Oracle databases. Strong scripting and Unix/Linux experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and support of information systems in an ERP environment, preferably Ellucian Banner.
• Hands on experience with Oracle RDBMS; experience with one or more database systems is a plus.
• Experience with Unix/Linux in a large-scale production environment.
• Ability to write and debug scripts using Perl, PHP and Bash.
• Ability to manage small projects from start to finish and work with diverse teams.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Senior Systems Software & Integration Engineer

Easter Inc. Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Senior Systems Software and Integration Engineer position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, provides technical support and leadership in the areas of information systems administration, problem resolution, system testing, development, integration, and security. Performs and coordinates design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of technical solutions to enhance information systems.

Responsibilities:

• Develops, maintains, performs and coordinates procedures to ensure integrity of information systems.
• Leads in design and coordinates with programmers in development of software solutions and integrations.
• Maintains thorough understanding of software application subsystems, with ability to gauge impact of system access requests and handle items such as code modification and configuration.
• Performs and coordinates testing, deployment, maintenance of software and database applications and enhancements.
• Works as a system analyst with key personnel to help define user needs and develop solutions.
• Coordinates with technical and functional staff to troubleshoot application and database problems.
• Works with technical and functional staff to analyze, design, construct and implement applications and integrations; help to determine and document business needs and requirements for upgrades and enhancements.
• Manages moderately complex projects from start to finish, including resource planning.
• Participates in organization's disaster recovery and business resumption planning, testing, and implementation.
• Participates in organization's emergency response planning, testing, and implementation.
• Assists in the implementation of security policies & procedures, along with investigation and resolution of security incidents, to ensure a stable and secure computing environment.

• Works directly with vendors and technical support personnel on equipment and software purchases, as well as support and maintenance contracts.

• May supervise professional staff and/or student workers.

• Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those described above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and support of information systems in an ERP environment, preferably Ellucian Banner.
• Hands on experience with a currently supported version of Oracle RDBMS. Experience with one or more database systems including Microsoft SQL, MySQL, or Postgres is a plus. Certification is a plus.
• Experience with Unix/Linux operating system in a large-scale, high transactional production environment.
• Ability to write and debug scripts using common scripting languages like Perl, PHP and Bash.
• Ability to take ownership and manage small projects from start to completion.
• Excellent customer service and communica1ion skills. Ability to work with people of various backgrounds and on all levels of technical knowledge.
• Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

These qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.

Compensation and Employee Benefits

The Senior Systems Software and Integration Engineerare compensated at the Administrative V, salary level in accordance with the State University Organization of Administrative Faculty (SUOAF).
