Intuitive Surgical, Inc. seeks a Principal Systems Research Engineer to act as the senior technical authority for systems engineering across concept‑to‑prototype initiatives in robotic surgery.

You will own architecture, requirements flow‑down, and risk retirement, guiding multiple concurrent early‑stage projects and integrating hardware, software, and control strategies. The role involves leading cross‑functional teams, mentoring engineers, and representing the group in external collaborations

Qualifications

Deep mastery of robot manipulators, control theory, and teleoperation for novel system designs.
Experience architecting end‑to‑end mechatronic systems with hardware, software and controls.
Proven leadership in cross‑functional teams and technical reviews.

Responsibilities

Lead system architecture, requirements flow‑down, and risk retirement across concept portfolios.
Develop and validate distributed electro‑mechanical systems and control algorithms for prototypes.
Mentor engineers and interact with senior leadership on feasibility and investment decisions.
Coordinate cross‑functional reviews and ensure traceability from clinical need to prototype.
