Overview
This role will be within the R&T department as part of the Engineering organization conducting research and development primarily, but not limited to, composite technologies based in Riverside, CA.
What You Will Do
- Lead and support the development of technologies in adherence with TRL and MRL toll gates.
- Work closely with Engineers and Engineering Technicians, supporting daily process development.
- Interact between Engineering groups (programs, chief office engineer, aftermarket, manufacturing/operations, facilities, supply chain, test labs, suppliers and customers) ensuring on‑time and quality execution of materials and process project tasks and deliverables.
- Utilize manufacturing process experience to provide technical support and consultation for executing prototype and demonstrator builds.
- Review, understand, provide feedback, and approve manufacturing planning documents.
- Ensure adherence to all compliance requirements (TRL, MRL, EHS, CMS, QMS, PPAP, etc.).
- Engage in problem‑solving initiatives and challenge the status quo (e.g., root cause and corrective action investigations, OEE, FPY, customer escapes).
- Participate and contribute on Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control build plans.
- Identify opportunities on drawings and specifications to influence changes to engineering designs and line balancing.
- Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible for processes.
- Participate in process improvement and continuous improvement activities.
- Implement results of lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Travel up to 10% as needed.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Multi‑axis robotics programming and operation experience.
- 3–5 years of industry experience in composite manufacturing and process development, ideally with a strong focus on composite aerostructures.
- Experience as a technical SME, relationship building, effective communications, lean leadership, and influence.
- Extensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and 3D CAD designs (CATIA).
- Knowledge of thermoset and thermoplastic composite material and processing specifications for the aerospace industry.
- Product development and introduction experience.
- Knowledge of metallic material and processing specifications for the aerospace industry.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in a highly collaborative environment.
- Experience working with fiber‑optic laser systems.
- PLC programming and operating experience.
- Advanced knowledge of robotic programming and operation.
- Systems development and integration experience.
