Shield AI in San Diego, CA seeks an experienced C++ generalist to build cross-language software for complex, real-time systems. You will contribute to architecture, develop APIs, and integrate simulation and third-party tools across distributed environments.

Ideal candidates have strong C++ (C++14/17/20) and Python skills, Linux system experience, and a SECRET clearance. The role emphasizes robust software practices, CI/CD, and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 4 years and a Master’s; or 2 years with a PhD; or equivalent.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++14/17/20) with legacy codebase experience (C++98/03).
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and system-level development.
• Experience with Python.
• Professional Linux environment experience (Windows a bonus).
• Solid understanding of system-level engineering and design patterns.
• Experience with CI/CD and test automation.
• Experience with Docker.
• Active SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain C++ and Python software for cross-platform systems.
• Contribute to system architecture focusing on performance and maintainability.
• Develop APIs and messaging interfaces (e.g., gRPC, REST, ZeroMQ).
• Integrate third-party software and hardware, including real-time and simulation tools.
• Debug distributed systems with attention to threading and data flow.
• Apply test-driven development and automated testing in Agile teams.
• Improve CI/CD workflows using GitLab CI, Docker, CMake, Conan.
• Collaborate across teams to share solutions and promote best practices.
• Continuously learn new tools, standards, and technologies.
