Shield AI seeks a Mission Systems Software Engineer to design and implement real-time aircraft mission-computing software. You will collaborate with hardware, FPGA, cybersecurity, and systems teams to deliver architectures from PDR to flight test and fielding.

The role requires experience in embedded real-time systems, C/C++/Rust, and distributed software, with potential DoD security clearance. Seattle-area office location featured with cross-disciplinary teams and lab environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering or related field; 5+ years software engineering
• Experience in software architecture or technical leadership roles
• Proficiency in C, C++, Rust or other strong typed languages
• Experience with embedded OS, RTOS, middleware, IPC, networking and data distribution
• Experience developing embedded, distributed, real-time, safety-critical software systems
• Security clearance experience or eligibility (DoD)

Responsibilities

• Serve as a software mission systems engineer for a real-time system aligned with military standards
• Define and maintain end-to-end software architecture including APIs and interfaces
• Architect for deterministic real-time performance focusing on scheduling and latency
• Develop architecture views, data-flow and deployment models, and technical decision records
• Integrate sensors, navigation, autonomy, mission management and C2 with hardware and test teams
• Design for resilience, fault detection, redundancy, cybersecurity and safety
• Establish engineering practices for concurrency, memory management and configuration
• Define verification strategies across labs, simulations, and field tests
• Maintain technical ownership through risk, modernization and supplier evaluation
