Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Manager (onsite) in Melbourne, Florida, to lead a dedicated avionics systems team focused on future development and testing for commercial aircraft.

The role requires a deep understanding of the Systems Engineering V-model, strong leadership, and experience in Agile environments, with exposure to certification activities and EV management. A collaborative leader will guide capabilities across the business to meet demand and staffing needs.

Qualifications

  • Requires STEM degree and extensive experience (10+ years or 7+ years with advanced degree).
  • Understand the full systems engineering V-model and apply to products.
  • Familiarity with aircraft certification activities (TC/STC, TS0/PM A) and avionics certification activities.
  • Knowledge of Avionics DO-160 qualification activities.
  • Experience in Agile environments and Earned Value Management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop systems engineers; create IND plans and development tracks.
  • Coach and guide team to implement systems engineering concepts for avionics.
  • Manage staffing, budgets, and multiyear project plans.
  • Support bids, proposals, and cost estimation for new engineering efforts.

Position: Senior Systems Engineering Manager (Onsite) – Melbourne, Florida

This onsite position is based in Melbourne, Florida.

Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced, Senior Systems Engineering Manager with a passion for engineering and the desire to lead an innovative, dedicated team responsible for future development and testing of avionics systems for commercial aircraft.

Eligibility Requirements

The company will offer immigration sponsorship for this position, if needed. The company will seek an export authorization for this role, if required.   • People Management
  • Develop and manage individual development plans for team members
  • Coach and guide systems engineers in performing their tasks
  • Proactively manage team performance, conducting continuous performance discussions
  • Manage team salaries and compensation, aligning with broader department strategies

  • Create strategic staffing plans for multiyear projects
  • Work with leaders across the business to find the best total Collins solution to staffing
  • Work with programs to understand demand loading and skillset needs
  • Technical Contribution
  • Support team in Systems Development concepts for Avionics equipment
  • Understand the full systems engineering "V" and how to implement it into products
  • Awareness of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance systems in commercial aircraft

  • Support systems engineering team in developing estimates for new engineering efforts
What You Will Learn

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Must understand the full systems engineering "V" and how to implement it into products
  • Basic understanding of aircraft level certification activities (TC/STC etc…) as well as avionics certification activities (TSO/PMA etc…)
  • Understanding of Avionics DO-160 qualification activities
  • Avionics development lifecycle understanding
  • Experience implementing and operating in an Agile environment
  • Basic understanding of Earned Value Management
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Understanding of ARP-4754 and how to implement in Avionics
  • Expert level understanding of aircraft and avionics level certification activities
  • Experience as a Cost Account manager
  • Experience working with FAA/FCC
  • Understanding the difference between EASA and FAA regulations
  • Industry awareness of Communication Working Group
  • Pilots License
  • Greater than 3 years of engineering leadership experience
  • Ability to lead complex avionics programs as a technical leader
  • Ability to lead large bidding efforts
  • Familiarity with Jama
  • Experience working with Boeing and Airbus
  • Experience working with Business and Regional OEMs

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
