Job summary

Collins Aerospace, a leading provider of avionics and aerospace solutions, seeks a senior engineering leader to manage systems engineers and guide multi-year staffing strategies. You will coach teams, shape development plans, and align salaries with department goals while collaborating across programs to meet demand and skill requirements.

The role requires a deep understanding of the Systems Engineering V model, avionics certification activities, and Agile practices.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires STEM degree and minimum 10 years of experience or an advanced degree with minimum 7 years of experience
  • Understand the full systems engineering V model and how to implement it into products
  • Basic understanding of aircraft level certification activities (TC/STC) and avionics certification activities (TSO/PMA)
  • Understanding of avionics DO-160 qualification activities
  • Avionics development lifecycle understanding
  • Experience in Agile environments
  • Basic understanding of Earned Value Management

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor systems engineers and drive performance and development
  • Develop and manage individual development plans for team members
  • Coach and guide systems engineers in task execution
  • Proactively manage team performance with continuous performance discussions
  • Oversee salaries and compensation aligned with department strategies
  • Create strategic staffing plans for multiyear projects
  • Collaborate with leaders to find optimal Collins staffing solutions
  • Understand demand loading and skillset needs with program teams
  • Support systems development concepts for avionics equipment
  • Apply the Systems Engineering V model to product development
  • Maintain awareness of CNS/avionics systems in commercial aircraft
  • Assist in developing estimates for new engineering efforts

What You Will Do:

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Must understand the full systems engineering "V" and how to implement it into products
  • Basic understanding of aircraft level certification activities (TC/STC etc…) as well as avionics certification activities (TSO/PMA etc…)
  • Understanding of Avionics DO-160 qualification activities
  • Avionics development lifecycle understanding
  • Experience implementing and operating in an Agile environment
  • Basic understanding of Earned Value Management
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Understanding of ARP-4754 and how to implement in Avionics
  • Expert level understanding of aircraft and avionics level certification activities
  • Experience as a Cost Account manager
  • Experience working with FAA/FCC
  • Understanding the difference between EASA and FAA regulations
  • Industry awareness of Communication Working Group
  • Pilots License
  • Greater than 3 years of engineering leadership experience
  • Ability to lead complex avionics programs as a technical leader
  • Ability to lead large bidding efforts
  • Familiarity with Jama
  • Experience working with Boeing and Airbus
  • Experience working with Business and Regional OEMs

Onsite:

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
