Job summary

J T in Columbia, MD seeks a senior Systems Engineer 3 to drive a critical initiative that migrates ~40 legacy databases into a unified data model and modern platform. You will reverse engineer data structures, design unified models, and optimize SQL across Oracle and PostgreSQL, ensuring secure, high-integrity migration and enabling analytics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Systems Engineering or related field plus 20+ years of relevant professional experience, OR 25 years of relevant professional systems engineering/data architecture experience without a degree.
• Active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance.
• Extensive experience in database design, data modeling, and schema normalization.
• Deep SQL experience across relational databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Proven reverse engineering of complex software systems across front-end and back-end layers.

Responsibilities

• Reverse engineer legacy front-end and back-end architectures to map existing data structures and workflows.
• Design and develop unified database models to consolidate ~40 databases into a single system.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries for Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Analyze, cleanse, normalize, and validate data to ensure migration integrity.
• Apply data security best practices throughout modeling, extraction, and migration phases.
• Support data visualization, presentation services, and prototyping for downstream analytic tools.
