Job summary

Waymo is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to help advance perception and robotics software for the Waymo Driver. Hybrid work schedule with outcomes-oriented responsibilities across software and hardware teams.

You will develop analysis tools, advocate evidence-based requirements, and drive safety-critical testing while communicating results to leadership. A strong background in CS/Robotics and C++/Python is expected.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or 4 years of practical experience in perception or robotics.
• Experience in software engineering for simulation and data evaluation.
• Strong technical communication and ability to write clear reports.

Responsibilities

• Propose requirements using statistical and risk-based arguments.
• Lead qualification of perception software systems for driverless release.
• Drive consensus across software and hardware teams.
• Develop reusable analysis tools based on simulation and fleet data.
• Design, debug, and execute tests using existing tools.
• Present recommendations and results in technical reports.
