Job summary

Onto Innovation is a leader in automated optical inspection and metrology platforms for the semiconductor industry. The Systems Engineer 3 will independently contribute to the support, maintenance, and development of complex systems across labs and customer sites.

Ideal candidates bring experience in optical instrumentation, motion control, and cross-functional collaboration, with travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years in high-precision optical or semiconductor capital equipment.
• Experience in cross-functional environments supporting product development or field ops.
• Knowledge of optical inspection, metrology, spectroscopy, ellipsometry, and reflectometry a plus.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Integrate hardware subsystems with software to enable functionality.
• Qualify new product configurations focusing on performance and reliability.
• Assess health and performance of installed systems in labs, applications labs, and customer sites.
• Maintain and support engineering and applications systems; diagnose issues with SMEs.
• Communicate status updates and technical findings to stakeholders and customers.
• Contribute to projects involving optical inspection and metrology systems.
• Collaborate across cross-functional teams including customers and engineering.
• Document alignment, calibration, and repair procedures.
• Travel to customer locations (domestic and international) to support integration (≈20%).
