Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer (MBSE & Digital Engineering) to lead MBSE modeling, requirements traceability, and cybersecurity integration for the NGE on the IRES contract. You will create SysML models, define interfaces, and ensure RMF/STIG alignment across hybrid cloud and enterprise networks, reporting to Government stakeholders.

Description of Duties

As a Senior Systems Engineer (MBSE & Digital Engineering) supporting the Next Generation Environment (NGE) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract, you will serve as a core technical contributor driving the digital engineering transformation for the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) unified digital environment. In this role, you will apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and digital engineering practices to architect, decompose, and trace complex system requirements across hybrid cloud, enterprise networks, cybersecurity, and platform domains. You will bridge the gap between operational requirements, systems architecture, and technical implementation by developing authoritative SysML models, defining system interfaces, and integrating DoD cybersecurity standards (RMF, DISA STIGs, and Zero Trust) directly into the model baseline. Working collaboratively across multi-contractor consortium performers, engineering domain leads, and Government technical directors, you will ensure the NGE digital foundation maintains full traceability, technical rigor, and mission-aligned verification from concept through operational deployment.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) & SysML Modeling

• Develop, refine, and maintain comprehensive MBSE models, system architectures, and behavioral/structural diagrams (e.g., Use Case, Block Definition, Internal Block, Activity, Sequence, and State Machine diagrams) utilizing SysML modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler / MagicDraw.
• Ensure all systems engineering artifacts adhere to established International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and Object Management Group (OMG) standards.

Requirements Development, Decomposition & Traceability

• Decompose top-level MDA mission and stakeholder requirements into detailed functional, performance, interface, and cybersecurity specifications.
• Establish and maintain "golden thread" requirements traceability from high-level capabilities down to system baselines, subsystems, and verification criteria, ensuring no orphaned requirements or unverified technical debt.

Cybersecurity & Zero Trust Architecture Integration

• Incorporate Risk Management Framework (RMF) controls, DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and DoD Zero Trust principles directly into MBSE architecture models.
• Serve as a technical bridge between systems engineering and cyber defense teams, ensuring that system boundaries, security overlays, and identity/access management (ICAM) controls are accurately represented in technical baselines.

Technical Baseline Management & Interface Definition

• Define and document system-to-system and component-to-component interfaces, generating authoritative Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system design specifications, and architecture decision records.
• Ensure physical, logical, and virtual infrastructure dependencies (compute, storage, VMware virtualization, operating systems, and network overlays) are synchronized with the MBSE digital thread.

Verification, Validation & Test Planning

• Develop and maintain Verification Cross-Reference Matrices (VCRMs), system validation plans, and technical evaluation criteria to support formal Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs).
• Coordinate with test teams to validate that implemented infrastructure and platform configurations satisfy modeled requirements and mission use cases.

Consortium Collaboration & Peer Mentorship

• Lead technical working sessions, MBSE diagram walkthroughs, and peer review boards across multi-contractor consortium teams and Government stakeholders.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in SysML modeling conventions, requirements engineering, and digital engineering best practices.

Engineering Governance & Lifecycle Support

• Participate in Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), and Architecture Review Boards (ARBs) to assess technical impact and maintain baseline configuration integrity.
• Align systems engineering workflows with Agile and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) delivery cadences, supporting Program Increment (PI) planning and sprint execution.

Basic Requirements

• Must have 10, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience (may be reduced with completion of advanced education)
• Must have 5, or more, years of directly related experience
• Must have 6, or more, months of experience working in a management or leadership role
• Must have demonstrated experience with requirements development, decomposition, allocation, and traceability adhering to INCOSE and OMG standards.
• Must have a strong background in integrating DoD cybersecurity requirements (NIST SP 800-53, RMF, DISA STIGs) into system architectures and engineering designs.
• Must have practical technical foundation in enterprise IT infrastructure (e.g., Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware virtualization, host-based security systems, and IP networking).
• Must hold a current DoW 8140/8570 IAT Level II or higher certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, CASP+ CE, CISSP).
• Must have an active DoW Secret security clearance
• Must be eligible to obtain a DoW Top Secret security clearance (or active Top Secret).

Desired Requirements

• Active DoW Top Secret security clearance.
• Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, or Information Assurance.
• Professional systems engineering and modeling credentials:
  • OMG-Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP)
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP or CSEP)
  • CompTIA CySA+, PenTest+, or CISSP
• Have experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or DOORS Next Generation (DNG).
• Have direct experience supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), the IRES contract, or defense weapons systems enclaves.
• Have experience working in an Agile/SAFe environment utilizing Jira and Confluence for systems engineering deliverables.

Compensation Details

$135,000 – $175,000 The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good-faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
